This has been a long time coming.
For most independent companies (like us!), the prospect of running a major ad campaign is a pipe-dream. We just don’t have the money. But that’s why the collaboration between Channel 4 and B-Corp really matters.
Their question, put simply: If given a big chunk of advertising air time, what would you do with it?
Our answer: This…
To enter the competition, companies need to A) have never run a TV ad before and B) be a B-Corp. It’s reward for those committed to B-Corp’s values and recognition of the importance of small businesses to the UK’s economy. Over 100 companies entered. 10 were invited to pitch. 5 won. And we’re absolutely buzzing to be one of them.
So much makes us feel bad, or guilty or anxious. But we stand for the one thing proven to make us all feel good: Nature. 87% of UK adults say Nature is important to their wellbeing. And 92% say they feel a responsibility to look after Nature. Show us something (anything!) that unites us more! So this is a celebration of just that. People expressing their love of, and Faith in, Nature.
But we were only ever going to do this in a Faith In Nature way. 52 years of independence grows something of a DIY spirit. Our first products were made at the kitchen sink. We still have what we lovingly call ‘recyclabarrows’ (wheelbarrows made from recycled drums) in the factory, and everything in this ad is made with that same heart.
This is a celebration not just of Nature, but what it is to be human.
Everyone in it is a friend. (Fun fact: the Bee is our very own Customer Services Executive, Sasha!) Everything you see has been crafted with joy and a human hand. All costumes have been made from our own delivery boxes or what we’ve found in skips. There’s no trickery. And it goes without saying there’s no AI. Because who needs it when humans can do all this?!
It’s been a ride. To be honest, we still can’t believe everyone who said yes said yes. Not least The Shamen allowing us to recreate their 90s rave classic.
But perhaps what it goes to show is how much we really do all love Nature. When given the opportunity to sing “BEES R GOOD, TREES R GOOD, BEES N TREES R GOOD” it turns out everyone is surprisingly willing.
