PRODUCT INFORMATION

Our 500ml metal bottles are made from 100% recycled aluminium and contain an internal coating. The aluminium that is used in these bottles conforms to strict purity standards for packaging that is intended to come in contact with foodstuff and drinks for human and pets. The internal coating forms a protective barrier between the aluminium bottle and the product inside. We selected this coating because it has been verified to be safe for use with food and drinks, and conforms to several UK and EU regulations*, including some for materials that come into contact with food. Aluminium bottles with the same type of internal coating are already used by other global cosmetic brands for similar types of products.
 
We have extensively tested our products inside the coated aluminium bottles to ensure their compatibility over the 30 months shelf life of the liquid products inside. The filled bottles are stored in a 40 degrees Celsius oven, to accelerate the ageing of the products, and they are monitored and tested at 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 weeks. By testing the products after 24 weeks’ storage in the 40°C oven, we have simulated and even exceeded the equivalent of the product’s 30 months shelf life – plus an extra 12 months after their opening at ambient temperature. To be extra vigilant, we tested a selection of our products after one year inside the aluminium bottles in the 40°C oven, far exceeding the shelf life. In addition, we keep products in aluminium bottles inside a fridge and at room temperature – and these are also monitored and tested at 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 weeks, 1 year and 30 months. The products that are stored in the fridge act as a control standard and simulate cold climates, and the room temperature storage will verify the 12 weeks accelerated at 40°C study when it reaches 30 months.

Our Aloe Vera, Lavender & Geranium, Wild Rose and Rosemary range are recommended for normal hair & scalp.

If your hair is bleached or damaged, we’d recommend our hair mask range. They have restorative properties and harness the benefits of naturally derived oils and butters.

Our hair masks are specially formulated to bring balance to damaged hair, restoring your hairs former glory if you’re looking for a deeper, more nourishing treatment.

Our products contain 100% natural origin aromas, no artificial colours, parabens and SLS – meaning they’re as gentle as can be and don’t affect the colour of hair.


We don’t test our products specifically on coloured hair, so when deciding which of our products to treat yourself to, simply choose the products that suits your hair type e.g. dry hair, oily hair, normal hair etc.

All our liquid shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, body washes and hand washes have been dermatologically tested and determined as non-irritating. Our Aloe Vera Shampoo, Aloe Vera Conditioner, Aloe Vera Body Wash and Tea Tree Hand Wash have been dermatologically tested against sensitive skin and determined as non-irritating.

Our expertly formulated body care base blend contains organic oat extract, limeflower and elderberry, active natural ingredients chosen for their known abilities to help promote healthy skin. The blend is the foundation for all our liquid hand wash and body wash.

We’ve been working on our new range of liquid shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, body wash and hand wash – up from 99% to 99.5% natural origin and with even more active naturals. Introducing these new products meant we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue some of the existing ones to make room. We know it’s disappointing when you can’t get hold of a product you love, but we hope you’ll love our new formulations just as much (if not more!).

New formulas are our first direct response to Nature’s role as a voting director of our company. We’ve done our homework, and Nature needs us to adapt, improve and make it even easier for everyone to make better choices for themselves with the planet in mind, every day. In response, we’ve made our liquid shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, body washes, and hand washes even more natural (and even more effective!). They’re now up from 99% natural origin to 99.5% natural origin (which is huge!). And each of these products contain an expertly formulated base blend of three organic active natural origin ingredients: in haircare, it’s made up of nettle, chamomile and rosemary, for healthy hair and scalp. In hand and body wash, it’s oat extract, limeflower and elderberry, to help promote healthy skin. These new formulations are the first physical fruition of Nature’s role as a director on our board.

Although our products are not completely organic, many of our ingredients, including our coconut oil, argan oil and sweet orange oil, are. And the base blends of our liquid shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash use organic, active naturals. In the haircare base blend, the nettle, rosemary and chamomile are all organic. And in body care, the oat extract, limeflower and elderberry are again all organic.

Firstly, we can confirm that all our products are cruelty free.

Secondly, we also know that our products are not tested on animals in China as we have there have been regulation changes since 2021. Since the publication of the Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulation (CSAR) on 1 January 2021 and the implementation of the regulation “Provisions for Management of Cosmetic Registration and Notification Dossiers” from 1 May 2021, general cosmetics in China do not need to be tested on animals as long as a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certificate is issued by the government in the country where the products are being made.

Starting 1 May 2021, Brands and companies manufacturing in the UK are now able obtain a GMP certificate from the UK Government for export to China. Faith in Nature have obtained the GMP Certificate from UK Government which allows us to export to China without the need to test on animals and remain cruelty free.

In the UK, the manufacture and supply of cosmetics is governed by the UK Cosmetics Regulation, which is part of UK consumer product safety legislation. Compliance is mandatory.

All ingredients must be safe to use and ingredients are regularly reviewed by independent scientists. If an ingredient was found to be unsafe to use in a cosmetic product, it would be banned for use.
Allergic reactions to cosmetic ingredients are rare but all cosmetic products in the UK are labelled with a list of ingredients so that specific ingredients can be identified and avoided by anyone who has a known allergy.

Every new product must undergo a full safety assessment before it is allowed on the shelves and this is a strict requirement under UK cosmetics law, which also provides guidance on how this safety assessment must be carried out. It also specifies that cosmetic products must not damage our health when used normally. Safety assessments may only be carried out by certain qualified professionals and must cover the finished product, all of the ingredients and how products will be used. The requirements for safety assessors are so stringent that there are only around 400 or so in the whole of the UK. They must be specifically qualified and have appropriate experience to make the assessment.

All our aromas are composed of different ingredients of natural origin. Where possible, we break down the components of an aroma on the ingredients list, but the blends can be very complex, so on some labels, we need to use the catch-all, legal term ‘Parfum (Fragrance)’. For legal and internal operational reasons, the ingredients listing on our website has to match that of the label. Please be assured that we’re not trying to hide anything. None of our products directly contain palm oil, but 12 out of the 115 ingredients on our list contain palm oil derivatives – and all of these are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). These derivatives are notoriously challenging to eradicate from the global industry, so it’s vital we can trace them. We still agonise over the use of palm oil derivatives and are constantly looking for less impactful alternatives.

Palm’s big problem is that it’s so efficient. In other words, to produce the same amount of oil from, say, sunflowers would require 20 times the land mass. It’s an incredibly complicated issue and one we wish there was an easy answer for.

After lengthy consideration of the alternatives, we feel that the sustainable palm oil derivatives are both the best ecological and ethical solution at this moment in time.

In order to help protect and preserve rainforests destroyed by non-RSPO-approved palm oil, we work in partnership with Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) to educate and empower local people to protect their land. Nuts aren’t used to produce our products, only the occasional use of refined nut oil.

Allergy UK advises that refined nut oils are highly processed, reducing the likelihood of nut protein remaining in the oil, and therefore are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. In the UK, we do not classify Coconut as a nut but as a seed.

Some of our shampoos and conditioners do contain certain types of alcohol—but not the kind typically associated with drying out hair.

We use fatty alcohols like cetearyl alcohol in some of our conditioners. These are plant-derived, non-drying, and actually help to soften and condition the hair.

You may also see benzyl alcohol listed in some shampoos—this is a naturally derived preservative and used in small, safe amounts.

Rest assured, we don’t use harsh or drying alcohols like ethanol or isopropyl alcohol in our formulas.

Most of our products are gluten free, except for our shampoo bars which contain a very small trace of gluten (0.0025%).

Although our other products do not contain gluten, we can’t guarantee that there are no cross-contamination issues in the warehouse of our suppliers.

We do not use sodium laureth sulphate (SLES), or sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) in any of our products. Whilst our conditioners, hair masks and haircare bars are sulphate-free, we do use ammonium lauryl sulphate (ALS) in our shampoos, body washes and hand washes. ALS is considered a safe and effective cleansing agent and is biodegradable. Virtually 100% of this base is immediately removed from the skin or hair by the simple act of rinsing with water.

Absolutely. We don’t use parabens in any of our products.

There is no sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) or sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) in any of our products.

We want a world where everyone can use natural products, and of course that includes the mini Nature lovers out there! We recommend that our products are suitable to be used on those aged 3+. Anecdotally, we’ve had feedback from several parents to say that they love using our products on their younger children, but we are unable to formally advise this.

Yes, all the products in our range are considered safe to use during pregnancy and breast feeding.

We use 100% natural origin aromas in our products, and these are made using safe quantities of essential oils, which are considered safe to use during pregnancy and breast feeding. If, however, you are unsure about using essential oils during pregnancy, we advise that you speak to a health care professional.

Yes they are! Faith in Nature believes that no animal should suffer in the making of our products and that all beauty and household products should be cruelty free, this is a founding principle of our business. We are proud to be Leaping Bunny approved. A global programme, Leaping Bunny requires cruelty free standards over and above legal requirements. You can find the logo on the front of all our packaging.

All of our Faith in Nature products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.

All our formulations contain a minimum of 99% biodegradable ingredients to make sure they're gentle on your skin. Our formulations are designed to break down, helping minimise their environmental impact.

Our products will predominantly break down into the elements of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. It's not possible to assign a time, as it depends on the environment in which they are left to biodegrade, especially the levels of oxygen, water, light, temperature, and the number and types of bacteria present. We only use naturally derived cleansing surfactants that pass a specific biodegradation test, which achieves at least 60% in 28 days.

The use and disposal of household quantities of our products does not interfere with the function of a properly sited and maintained septic tank.
