Nature's Mintiest Mint Body Wash

Everyone loves a fresh new fragrance, and they don’t get fresher than this: our new Mint Body Wash has arrived. Our founder, Rivka, blended this one with extra-minty English peppermint oil, to pep up your shower (and your mood). Because mint, especially this mint, has a lot going for it. Here’s why we’re here for this heroic herb.

Why Mint?

Sometimes the most obvious ideas are right under your nose. So when, after nearly 50 years of making natural products, someone said “Why don’t we do a mint body wash?”, the rest of us said “Yeah, actually, why don’t we do a mint body wash?”.

We woke up and smelled the menthol, and our mission to create the best naturally-derived mint body wash we possibly could began.

Mint’s uplifting, cooling, invigorating – everything you want from a truly refreshing shower. We might be a little late to the mint party, but now that we’re here, we’re doing it properly.

Nature’s Mintiest Mint

The process began with sniffing out precisely the right essential oil for the job. Given the fact mint can be grown in the UK, and that our factory is in the UK, it made the most sense for the planet to pick a mint grown in home soil. Enter English peppermint, which has about 30-45% menthol content – about as minty as you can get.

Our peppermint oil comes from peppermint grown mainly by a small group of farmers in Norfolk and Suffolk, who work cooperatively to steam-distil the oil from the leaves themselves. Sometimes, depending on weather conditions, it can also come from Herefordshire and the Wirral.

Rivka, who is an aromatherapist and herbalist, blended this mega-minty oil with a carefully chosen selection of other essential oils to create an exhilarating, herbal, subtly sweet aroma.

“I can clearly imagine how the essential oils will blend together in my mind before setting to work. I then play with percentages until I believe the aroma blend is perfect,” she says.

So, what other herbs made it into the recipe with the peppermint?

“I blended English peppermint with local English lavandin, geranium and bergamot, along with other notes to deliver the most stimulating shower experience.”

But it’s the fresh, natural peppermint scent that’s the star of the show.

“English Mentha piperita is universally regarded among aromatherapists for its crystal-clear aroma and its benefits,” says Rivka.

Just what are those benefits? Read on…

The Benefits of Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is believed to do a lot of good things for the way we feel, as well as for our skin – and has been used by humans for centuries. The plant is a naturally occurring hybrid of two other types of mint: spearmint (Mentha spicata) and water mint (Mentha aquatica). Mint was prized by the ancient Egyptians, Hebrews and Greeks.

When it comes to the skin, peppermint oil is known to soothe inflammation, eliminate bacteria, relieve itchiness, refresh, enhance skin tone, rejuvenate and deliver a gentle cooling sensation.

As far as aromatherapy is concerned, peppermint oil’s bracing aroma is known to boost mood and increase mental clarity. Making it the perfect way to start your day.
