Find the Right Shampoo for Your Hair Type
Trying to find the right shampoo for your hair can be overwhelming. If you’re looking for a formula that’s vegan, cruelty-free and made without silicones, parabens and SLS, our range is a great place to start. But with so many varieties on offer, which one should you reach for? Allow us to help – after all, we’ve been making naturally-derived shampoo since 1974.
Best Shampoo for Dry Hair
If your hair and scalp are parched, opt for a shampoo charged with moisturising ingredients to quench that thirst. Our Coconut Shampoo is made with organic coconut oil, which is known to restore and quench both skin and hair. It’s a big hit with those whose hair tends to be dry – the fact it smells like a tropical getaway is an added bonus.
Another great choice for dry hair and scalp is Jojoba Shampoo. Jojoba oil is taken from the seed of the Simmondsia chinensis plant, an American desert shrub. The oil is an excellent shampoo ingredient because it closely mimics your scalp’s natural sebum. It’s super-easily absorbed by both hair and skin, making it a tonic for frazzled strands. Our reviewers often report shinier locks after using this one.
For extra dry and damaged hair, we recommend our Shea & Argan Shampoo, which is formulated with rich shea butter and argan oil, for even more nourishment.
Best Shampoo for Oily Hair
Oily hair comes from oily roots, which usually occur because your scalp produces excess sebum. By finding the right shampoo with ingredients to help, you can keep grease at bay and go longer between washes. It’s best to avoid products containing silicones, and none of ours do.
Our much-loved Grapefruit & Orange Shampoo contains non-greasy grapefruit oil, which is known to help regulate sebum production. It also contains orange oil, known for its antiseptic properties. Between them, both these fruit oils deliver a zesty, refreshing scent.
Our Seaweed & Citrus Shampoo is another popular option for those with greasy hair. Made with wild-harvested, organic seaweed from Ireland, it also has a refreshing hint of lemon. Seaweed is packed with antioxidants and is known to help regulate sebaceous glands, which produce sebum. It is also known to leave hair healthy and glossy.
Best Shampoo for Flaky Scalps
Itchy, flaky scalps are a sensitive issue. Literally. Preventing irritation and dried skin on the scalp can be a delicate balance. All our shampoos are free of parabens and SLS, ingredients that are known to cause scalp sensitivity in some, but please bear in mind that every scalp is different – what works for one might not be as effective for another.
That said, several of our shampoos contain ingredients known to help scalp health – and we have had lot of positive feedback from those who’ve used them. Our Rosemary Shampoo is loved not just for its unmistakable herbal scent, but because rosemary essential oil is known to calm and soothe inflamed scalps (many also believe it to help with hair regrowth).
Best Shampoo for Curly Hair
If you’re lucky enough to have curly or wavy hair, you’ll know that using the right shampoo is key to the shape, condition and hold of your beautiful coils. Half the battle is avoiding ingredients such as silicones, which can weigh hair down. That and knowing how to wash and condition your hair.
With its ethically-traded shea butter and luscious argan oil, our Shea & Argan Shampoo has lots of curly-haired fans. If you're a dedicated follower of the Curly Girl Method, ‘squish to condish’ with our Shea & Argan Conditioner. And treat your tresses to a regular pamper with our Shea & Argan Hair Mask.
Best Shampoo for Coloured Hair
Our shampoos aren’t tested specifically on coloured hair, but they’re all free of a lot of the harsh ingredients people with coloured hair are advised to avoid – things like parabens, SLS and silicones. They’re all made with essential oils and 100% natural origin aroma. Essentially, they cleanse your hair gently but effectively. So, if your hair is coloured, just jump to its type from the list above and try one of the varieties we suggest.
