Culture Forager, Vol II

Welcome to Culture Forager Vol II. If you hadn’t heard – this is a place for you to root around and rummage in what’s been piquing our interest each month. From books to albums, festivals to exhibitions (and pretty much anything else we think you should know about) we’re here to take you through our top five foraged findings.

THE BOOK

Love trees? Here’s a book for you. Inspiring millions since 2018, The Overstory, from author Richard Powers, is a Pulitzer Prize winning work of eco fiction exploring the complex relationships between human beings and the natural world, activism and climate change. It’s as heartbreaking as it is fascinating – so don’t expect a comfortable read.

THE EXHIBITION

Ever find yourself wondering about the exact weight of air? Pondering how long our atmosphere has actually been breathable, or what a pollution particle looks like super close up? Answers to all of these things (and more) can be found at the Wellcome collection’s latest exhibition ‘In the Air’ running from 19 May 2022 – 16 October 2022.

THE ESCAPE

THE FESTIVAL

Set in the stunning Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, Between the Trees Festival is a three day celebration of music, mindfulness, creativity and nature. From intimate acoustic sets and yoga in the woods, to guided forest bathing and natural art workshops: this is a festival with nature as headliner. 26 – 28 August 2022. Get your tickets here.

THE ALBUM

Released in April this year, Dan Wainwright & Elle Redding’s Mother Oak is a concept album that combines spoken word with Acid House to tell the life of an oak tree. In Dan’s words, the album “carries meaning and wisdom and at the same time conveys our wonder, awe and joy that we both experience by being in nature(…)”. Stream the album or buy it on vinyl
