FAQ's

What does “closed loop” mean?

Closed loop is the process by which our bigger bottles are reused to eliminate virgin plastic from the supply chain. Instead of wasting used bottles, you send them back to us to reuse and recycle into new bottles.

How does your Closed Loop Process work?

Once you’ve used up a 20L bottle, you can clean it, dry it and send it back to us in the post. We then collect these bottles, send them to our UK partner, where they are ground down and made into new bottles, before being sent back to us. This process avoids an intensive water wash out (which becomes more intensive with thicker products such as hair conditioners) and avoids risk of contamination. The process also ensures that used plastic can be retained within our supply chain infinitely.

How can you guarantee the bottles are processed in a Closed Loop?

As ethics and standards are at the heart of Faith in Nature, we have close relationships with all of our partners in the manufacturing process. Part of our commitment to our customers is stringent and detailed supplier traceability that assures any service, raw material or component is fit for purpose and meets our quality criteria. We remain open to sharing any proof or documentation of this if required.

Why do you no longer wash out and re-use the bottles?

Previously when you sent your empties back to us, we washed, dried, and reused them. However, this system was not as sustainable as we would have liked. Around 50% of the bottles we received were unfit for re-use according to our quality standards. Consequently, we found ourselves having to frequently use new plastic bottles in the production process – rather than reusing existing bottles.

We decided to change this for our bogger bottles and discovered a cleaner process so that no bottle would ever be wasted. Our new process is endless, as the same plastic is recycled and reused over and over again (that’s why it’s termed Closed Loop).

Why do the 5L and 20L bottles have a different process?

We are transitioning to the new Closed Loop system with our 5l bottles, to ensure all our bigger refill bottles are being reused. At the moment, we are still washing and reusing the 5L bottles where we can. In the next few weeks, our 5Ls will also be moving into the new process.

Why do you use plastic and not aluminium or another material?

For all the terrible consequences of plastic and overall impact on our environment, plastic has many useful properties when it comes to maintain the integrity of a liquid product that comes in contact with the skin. It is safe, durable, flexible and cost effective, which helps to keep our natural products affordable. There is also ongoing debate around the eco-benefits of more expensive and supposedly more environmentally friendly materials that are marketed as alternatives. At Faith in Nature, our objective is to use 100% recycled plastic that is already in an existing supply chain - that is also 100% recyclable or reusable. We believe this is the lowest impact and most efficient material available – and we are leading in it’s use in the market. That being said, we can all do more, and we all must. Out team is always looking for better alternatives that are even more natural, ethical and affordable, so that we can continue in delivering nature to everyone with our products.
