In the 12th Century, healers from Wales were including viola in preparations for treating "any wounded integuement" better known now as skin disorders, and its use has been well documented since.

Rich in vitamins A and C, Viola is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and astringent properties and it is particularly effective at treating acne and other skin eruptions. The essential oil derived from the leaves and flowers is also used as a fragrance.
